Welcome to the Crawford County, Iowa, IAGenWeb Project. My name is Stacey McDowell Dietiker, the Coordinator for the Crawford County Project.

My grandparents were born and raised near Deloit and Arion and my Crawford County ancestors go back several generations. The earliest are: Clark Winans, Sr. (1854, Mason's Grove); Martin Canary Talcott (1865, Dowville); David McKim (1869, Deloit); and John Milton Childress Jr. and his wife Charlotte Elizabeth Botts (1874 near Vail, then Deloit.)

Feel free to contact me with any broken links or other questions you might have concerning the website.

If you have access to genealogical data or historical information of genealogical interest about the county, towns, churches, schools or other data you would like to contribute to the database please send an email to

Crawford County Coordinator : Stacey Dietiker Email.

The assistant county coordinator and web page programmer at fault is Bob Kuehl Email who was born and raised on a farm northwest of Schleswig. The ancestors of his Kuehl family in Schleswig immigrated from Schleswig-Holstein and the ancestors of his mother's Staley family in Charter Oak immigrated from Hohenzollern and Rheinprovinz.

PLEASE NOTE: Both of us are unpaid volunteers, as are the many contributors you see listed on these web pages, who have given their time and energy to make this a useful website for genealogy research in Crawford County, Iowa.

Neither of us live in Crawford County and are unavailable to do individual research. You will find individuals listed on the LOOKUPS page available to assist you with your individual research.

GenWeb Beginnings

In March and April of 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea behind this behemoth task was to provide one point of access for databases in Kentucky. Along with the single entry point, the databases were indexed and cross-linked in order to follow one or more individuals across multiple databases.

Volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate databases and web pages for this project. The project then expanded from Kentucky across the United States becoming the USGenWeb Project. Now, the project is expanding even further and encompassing the globe to become the World GenWeb Project.
