ATLANTIC. Population, 5,400. An incorporated city located on the Nishnabotna river and on the C., R. I. & P. and A., N. & S. Rys., in Cass county, of which it is the judicial seat. It is 60 miles n. e. of Council Bluffs, 82 w. of Des Moines and 440 w. of Chicago, Ill. This is the trade center of a prosperous agricultural district and is supplied with ?? churches, excellent educational facilities, water works, fire department, opera house, ?? banks and 4 newspapers, the ?Telegraph (?? and semi-weekly), the ?Atlantic Daily Democrat (daily), the ?Farmers Messenger (weekly), and the ??? Democrat(weekly). There are several elevators, iron works, planing mill, canning factory, machine shops, ???, etc. Ships grain, live stock, produce and canned goods. Tel., Postal and W. U. Exp., U.
