Helgevold family history in Wright Co., Iowa

HELGEVOLD, HANSON, LUND, KVALE

I am trying to understand the history and genealogical relationships of the Helgevold family that immigrated to Eagle Grove, Iowa from Norway (Stavanger) in 1887. My great grandmother, Anna Helgevold Hanson (b.1877 d.1936), immigrated to the U.S. (Eagle Grove, Iowa) from Norway in 1887 with her family: Faltin H. Helgevold (b.1836, presumed father), Helga Helgevold (b.1850, wife of Faltin and presumed mother; "Olson" may have been her maiden name), and six siblings: Hans (b.1872), Ole (b.1874), Johannes (b.1881; aka John Hanson), Regnild (b. abt 1883), Faltin Jr. (b. abt 1885), and Helge (b.1886; aka Helge Lund, a brother). They arrived in North America aboard the S.S. Sardinian, which sailed from Liverpool to Halifax 14-24 April 1887. I have documented these events with the ship's manifest and Canadian Immigration Records. I personally knew John Hanson (d.1973), my great uncle "Jack", but never met any of my other Norwegian relatives. Hans, Ole, and Helge remained in the Eagle Grove area (Wright Co., Iowa) and raised families there, but Anna and John assumed the last name of Hanson and settled in San Francisco in the 1920's. I do not know how Anna and John acquired the "Hanson" surname and that is one of my queries. Hans and Ole retained the last name of "Helgevold", but the youngest brother Helge "Lund" - who was less than 5 months old at the time of immigration - was apparently raised by foster parents Peder and TorkelAnna Lund. John Hanson visited Helge and his family (niece Iona Lund Kvale, Helge's daughter) often (in Thor, Iowa)in the 1950's. Another Helgevold, "Hans W. Helgevold" (b.1874), may have been a half sibling but he immigrated to Eagle Grove from Norway in 1896: he also raised a family in Eagle Grove, Iowa. I have not been able to find any documentation for "Faltin Jr." or Regnild Helgevold other than their listing in the manifest of the S.S. Sardinian. Other unknowns are "William H. Helgevold" and "Bobette Helgevold", contemporaries of Faltin and Helga (Faltin's wife). William and Bobette may have been parents of one or more of the Helgevold children (Hans, Ole, Anna, etc., and Hans W.). I am looking for assistance from current residents of Wright County, Iowa and other descendants of this Helgevold family to help me understand and document this lineage of my family history. Other than Anna Helgevold Hanson, I believe most of the Helgevold family members mentioned above (including John Hanson) are buried in the Holmes Cemetary (Wright Co., IA). Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Don Campton

P.S. I have much publically available information on the Helgevold family documented in my family tree at Ancestry.com. This latter information is accessible to subscribers.
