Eugene R. Stauffer, 89, of Eagle Grove, died Monday, November 17, 2003, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Eugene R. Stauffer was born August 24, 1914, the son of Isaac and Mary (Mortensen) Stauffer in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He graduated from Welcome High School in Welcome, Minn. In 1932 and attended Mankato Teacher's College. He was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1937 until he retired in 1979. He was a depot agent in Fox Lake, Minn.; Welcome, Minn.; Bancroft, and Eagle Grove. He enlisted in the Army from 1944-1946. He served as a staff sergeant in World War II in Germany, France, Austria, and Belgium.

On June 15, 1944, he married Roberta Lehmann of Welcome, Minn. They made their home in Bancroft, Fox Lake, and Welcome until they moved to Eagle Grove in 1957. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Men's Bible Study Group, the VFW, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathy Stauffer, of Osage, and Robert and Debbie Stauffer, of West Plains, Mo.; four daughters and their husbands, Susan and Gary Hill, of Brownsburg, Ind.; Ann and Myron Haugland, of Boone, Doris Brauman, of Avon, Ind.; and Kristin and Jadell Johnson, of Brownsburg, Ind., special family member Virginia and Doyle Ringgenberg, of Shakopee, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and 10 spouses, 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Lucille Borchardt, of Fairmont, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, sister-in-law, and three brothers-in-law.
