William Rasmussen, 63, of West Bend died Sunday, January 24, 1999 on arrival at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona. Services were held Wednesday, Jan 27, 2:00 p.m. at Saint's Peter and Paul Catholic Church, West Bend with Rev. Bruce LeFebvre and Rev. Louis Greving officiating. Burial was in the West Bend Cemetery, with Military graveside rites by the West Bend American Legion Post. Visitation was from 3-8 Tuesday at Saint's Peter and Paul Catholic Church, West Bend, where a Rosary, Parish Vigil Service were held. Schellhammer-Harris Funeral Home, West Bend handled the arrangements.

Casket Bearers were Russell Jergens, David Johnson, Tom Leonard, Dominic Wibe, David Bleuer, and Tom Stienkamp. Honorary Casket Bearers were the West Bend Police Department, Kossuth County Sheriffs Office, Palo Alto County Sheriffs Office and Reserves, Pocahontas County Sheriffs Office and Iowa State Troopers.

William Rasmussen, the son of Nels and Clara (Ersland) Rasmussen was born August 19, 1935 in Goldfield, Iowa. He was educated in West Bend, graduating from the West Bend High School in 1953. He entered the armed forces during the Korean Conflict in 1953, serving until his discharge in 1956. On September 23, 1958 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Edgington at St's Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. The couple lived in West Bend until 1962, when he joined the Algona Police Force where he worked until his return to West Bend in 1966. While in West Bend he served as Chief of Police, retiring in 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, West Bend; daughters: Annette Waechter of Grinnell, and Kristi Wibe of Cedar Rapids, and a son John of Yankton, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren, a brother John Henry of Boise, Idaho, and a sister Juen Anderson of Belmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Michael, brothers Richard, Carrol and Glen and a sister Donna. He was a member of St's Peter and Paul Church, West Bend, the Palo Alto County Sheriffs Reserves and the West Bend American Legion.
