Obituary – Mrs. Mattie Wardall
The funeral service of Mrs. Mattie Wardall was held from her late home at two o’clock on Saturday afternoon. The house was filled with friends and neighbors who came to pay their last respects to a loved and earnest Christian woman. The services were conducted by Rev. Edward M. Jefiers who read several selections that she especially loved in John’s Gospel, and he read also from the Psalms and spoke of the thought suggested by Psalms 116:15. These few facts of her history were presented.
Mrs. Mattie Wardall was born in the state of New York. While she was yet a girl she came west with her parents and located in Dakota; she thus passed the most of her life in this part of the west. She was married in Northwood, Iowa to Mr. Charles Wardall, August 20, 1901. After this marriage they were in California for a brief time, then returned to Northwood and she passed the remainder of her days in the cozy little home that Mr. Wardall bought in our town.
For the last weeks of her life Mrs. Wardall was a great sufferer, but she was always patient and hopeful, and she died peacefully in the full triumphs of faith, Friday morning, Jan 6, 1905, aged 62 years. She leaves one child, a son, who resides in California; also a brother who is in Washington, and a sister who resides in South Dakota, besides her aged husband who is thus left lonely at the sunset of life. She was laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery, Sunset Rest, on Saturday afternoon. E.M.J.
