Mary (Williams) Towne
(January 8, 1848 – February 9, 1905)

Northwood Anchor, Northwood, IA, Feb 14, 1905, p.5
Mrs. A. L. Towne
Mrs. A. L. Towne died at her home in Hartland Township, at 11 o’clock, Thursday, Feb 9, 1905, aged 57 years, 1 month and 4 days. She was born in McHenry County, Ill, was married to A. L. Towne in February, 1866 and resided in Worth County all of her married life. Deceased had suffered two partial strokes of paralysis, within the past few years, and since then she has not been in very good health, but she had been able to assist with the household duties most of the time. About a week prior to her death she was taken sick, but it was thought that she had an attack of lagrippe and would be well again in a few days. As she continued to grow worse a physician was called and all that it was possible to do was done for her. She seemed no worse, and her husband and children though she seemed better, up to a short time before her death. She was the mother of eight children, three sons and five daughters, all of whom are living, except the youngest – a son, who died December 8, 1903. Funeral services were held at the late home of deceased in Hartland Township, Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. B. Curran of Northwood, preaching the sermon, and the remains were laid at rest in the home cemetery. Mrs. Towne was a hard-working, industrious lady, respected by her acquaintances, and her death is mourned by a large number of neighbors and friends. The heartfelt sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved husband and children.
