DANBURY, Iowa - Clifton E. Van Houten, 56, of Danbury died Monday, Dec. 5, 1988, in a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Dick Krambeck officiating. Burial will be in the Danbury Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Van Houten was born April 16, 1932, in Morgan Township, Woodbury County, near Danbury. He was a lifelong resident of the Danbury and Battle Creek community. He married Joyce Rose Dec. 8, 1959, in Sioux City. He had been employed as custodian at Maple Valley Junior High School in Danbury since 1974. He previously had worked as a farm laborer and was a truck driver for Grell Trucking from 1959 until 1973.

Survivors include his wife; his father, Lloyd Van Houten of Odebolt; a brother, Norman of Danbury, and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister.
