SALIX, Iowa -- Ella A. Malloy, 88, of Salix passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 5:30 p.m. rosary and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Ella A. Malloy was born on June 14, 1920, in Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Ambrose and Bernice (Pilgram) Chesley. She attended school in Sloan. When she was 14 years old, she had to quit school and take responsibility for her siblings since both her parents were ill and hospitalized. During World War II, she worked under a WPA program, the NYF, sewing clothes for the Red Cross in Sioux City.

On May 18, 1942, she was united in marriage to Paul Malloy in Sioux City. Paul died on April 4, 1997. She lived on their farm near Salix for 68 years. She enjoyed working with Paul on the farm, gardening and just being with her family.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and for years was active in the life of the church, whether in one of the circles or with the Tabernacle.

She is survived by her son, Mike and his wife, Barb of Salix; her daughter, Patricia and her husband, Jim Heien of Sioux City; two brothers, Don Chesley and his wife, Judy of Moville, Iowa, and Glenn Chesley and his wife, Mary of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Kelly Martin, Shelly Heien, Brenda Burkhart and Bradey Malloy; three great-grandchildren, Casey Martin, Dakota Martin and Lauren Burkhart; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul; a great-grandson, Justin Martin; and four sisters, Joyce Bressler, Florence Colman, Lorrine Becker and Gladys Hoverman.
