SIOUX CITY -- Harris W. Feldick, 81, of Casper, Wyo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2008, at a Casper hospital after battling congestive heart failure.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church, 4001 Indian Hills Drive in Sioux City. Burial will be in Olena Mound Cemetery at Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Harris was born on Oct. 9, 1927, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Harm and Martha (Folkerts) Feldick. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1945, and soon after served a two-year enlistment in the U.S. Navy. After military service, Harris attended college in Sioux Falls, S.D., and then returned to Buffalo Center to work as the administrator of the local hospital.

In 1956, Harris and then wife, Lois moved to Osage, Iowa, where he was employed as the hospital administrator. Harris, Lois and five children moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1968, when Harris was selected to be the Buena Vista County Hospital Administrator. In 1980, Harris moved to Sioux City, where he served as president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross for Western Iowa and South Dakota until his retirement in 1990.

Harris married Patricia E. Brown of Sioux City in 1991. The two were active members of Central Baptist Church and enjoyed travelling and visiting family during their retirement years until Pat's death in June 2006. Harris moved to Casper from Sioux City in October 2008.

Harris was active in a number of organizations during his lifetime, including the Baptist Church, Iowa Hospital Association, Boy Scouts of America, Chambers of Commerce and Jaycees. He was an avid outdoorsman from his early days as an Eagle Scout, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing. He learned to snow ski in his 50s, jumped out of an airplane on his 60th birthday, and rappelled down tall buildings and cliffs into his 60s.

Harris is survived by a son, Craig and his wife, Cecilia of Sydney, Australia; a son, Steve and his wife, Sandi and daughter, Stephanie of Casper, Wyo.; a daughter, Kathy May and her husband, Mark and daughters, Abra and Bryce of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Nathan and his wife, Carolina and son, Chase of Roseville, Calif.; and a sister, Ruth Sorensen and her husband, Leon of Westbrook, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; a sister, Shirley; and a son, Jeffrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harris' name may be directed to Sioux City's Central Baptist Church's Youth Ministry or The Way of the Cross Ministries.
