A recent newspaper aticle dated June 24, 2002, Argus Leader, Sioux Falls, SD reads in part...

"the Irish fist settled in parts of Nunda Township (Lake Co., SD) in about 1876. Most of the Irish settlers traveled into Lake County from the Burr Oak Iowa area."

My great grandparents, Joel Hudson Smith and Mary Johanna Quinn were married in Burr Oak, 1876 0r 8. (she was 1st generation Irish born in Chicago 1856) They had two children there in Burr Oak - Elsie Johanna 1881 and Lewis William 1883. The following year (1884) they went to Nunda Twp. to homestead. I am looking for info on the Iowa Irish, especialy any reference to those who went to SD. Can someone point me in the right direction?
