OLD RESIDENTS CALLED.
Henry Adams Passed Away Monday—Henry Yager Died Tuesday at Riceville.

HENRY ADAMS.
Residents of Decorah were surprised Monday to learn that Henry Adams, one of our old and well known residents, had died that morning from a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Adams was about town Saturday and seemed much as usual, though he has been in failing health for several years. He had suffered previous strokes, but in spite of this the news of his death came as a surprise to his old friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Adams was born Feb. 11, 1823, in Olean, N. Y., hence had just passed his eighty-fifth birthday. For a number of years he resided in Pennsylvania where on May 3, 1843, at Waterford, he was married to Nancy A. Jodon. In May, 1855, he came west and located at Freeport, where he formed a partnership in the carpentry trade with his brother-in-law. His family followed him west in the fall. In 1859 they came to Decorah to make their home. When the call for volunteers was made in 1862 Mr. Adams enrolled in Co. K, 38th Iowa, under Col. D. H. Hughes, and served three years. He continued to follow his trade for many years, but he long since relinquished all labors and has made his home with his son G. W. Adams. His wife passed away several years ago. Of their four children two died in infancy, leaving their sons George E. and Frank P. Adams as their survivors. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at two o’clock at the house, Rev. Margaret Olmstead officiating, and the remains were interred in Phelps cemetery. The services were in charge of Col. Hughes Post, G. A. R., and Winneshiek Lodge No. 58, I. O. O. F., of which organizations Mr. Adams was a member.
