Violet Styve, age 92, of Decorah, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah after a long illness.

Funeral services were Friday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church Decorah, with Rev. Marion Pruitt-Miller officiating. Alan Sensor was organist and hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives."

Casketbearers were Cory Stotts, Mark Styve, Brad Styve, Jim Lensch, Kent Lensch and Kevin Lensch. Honorary Casketbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Violet Emily Catherine (Stevenson) Styve was born May 11, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Stoskopf) Severson near Decorah. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Locust and confirmed Decorah Lutheran Church. She attended Pleasant Township #5 Country School.

She married Lester Styve on September 20, 1933 at the Decorah Lutheran Parsonage. Violet Styve worked at the Cliff House and Wapsie Produce for several years.

She enjoyed doing embroidery, crocheting. gardening and tending to her flowers. She was a member of TOPS for 25 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Survivors include her two daughters: Roselyn Lensch and husband David, Decorah and Charlene Brainard and husband Gene, Waukon; one son: Mark Styve and wife Linda, Waterloo; one sister: Edna Fisher and husband Norman, Decorah; one sister-in-law: Marjorie Steverson, Decorah; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law; Roger Danielson and wife Mildred, Burr Oak; Raymond Styve, Alexandria, Minn.; Reuben Styve and Peter Styve and wife, Hazel, all of Decorah.

Violet Styve was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester on March 29, 1995; three brothers: Sylvan, Leonard and Everett Severson; three sisters: Lillian Stoskopf, Clarissa Danielson and Evelyn in infancy.
