Cleone "Toni" Mae Knudtson
March 30, 1930 - July 21, 2017Surrounded by her family, Cleone M. “Toni” Knudtson, age 87, died on Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Cleone Mae Knudtson, a daughter of Allen and Mae (Juhl) Hallett, was born on March 30, 1930, in Gettysburg, South Dakota. She attended school, however, in Forest City, Iowa. She worked at the Forest City Telephone Office, the Lake Mills Community School, and the Lake Mills Care Center, and for many years, she babysat for friends in her home.
On December 12, 1948, she married Melburn E. Knudtson at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller, Iowa. They lived on a farm west of Lake Mills where they raised their family. Her family and friends have fond memories of her rolling lefse and baking kringla and generously sharing with everyone. She enjoyed her home and family, spending time housekeeping and tending to her lawn and flower garden. Moreover, she enjoyed reading her favorite cookbooks. She and Melburn traveled to Norway on two occasions to visit relatives, and they took several trips to Texas, Nevada, and Florida. Cleone opened her home every Sunday morning for family coffee, serving her baked goods, and she enjoyed Tuesday morning coffee breaks with her friends in downtown Lake Mills. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Michael (Kathy) Knudtson, Rosalie (Michael) Helgeson, and Kerby (Karen) Knudtson, all of Lake Mills, and Lori (Dennis) Knudtson-Dziura, Albert Lea, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Justin (Megan), Matt (Julianne), and Ryan (Kelli) Helgeson; Andrew (Jennie), Karla (Cory Yoder), and Kevin (Brooke) Knudtson; Kendra (Andy) Stene; Kristanne (Jeremy) Vaught; and Jonathan and Katie Whalen; many beloved great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law: Frances Hallett, of Crystal Lake, Iowa, Ruth Knudtson, of Mason City, Iowa, Evelyn Knudtson of Lake Mills, and Delores Knudtson, of Forest City; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Mae; her husband, Melburn; her in-laws, K. B. (Clara) Knudtson and Mabelle Knudtson; two sisters, Loretta (Enno) Etzen and Nadine (Bill) Price; and two brothers, Stanley and Leo (Millie) Hallett; as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church, 401 South Lake Street, Lake Mills, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation for Toni will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 24, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour before the service on Tuesday. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills is assisting the family.
