Obituary
Minnie Estella Keene was born Feb. 22nd, 1869, in Lucas County, Iowa; departed this life at the family residence after a severe illness of several months duration, Oct. 13th, 1896, age 26 years, 7 months and 27 days. She united with the First Presbyterian Church of English Township, Lucas County, Ia., at the age of 16 years and has lived a faithful and consistent member of the same until death. Her love for God and the things that pertain to His kingdom upon earth was manifest in the devoted life she lived. Even upon the bed of sickness she would look forward from one Lord’s day to another with the hope that she would soon be able to take her accustomed place in God’s house and participate in worshiping Him whom she loved “in spirit and in truth.” But being denied this blessed privilege of meeting with the saints of God at the place appointed for worship, she bore her disappointments as she bore her intense suffering, without a murmur or complaint. As a child of God’s kingdom she was subject to His will. She was the fifth child in a family consisting of ten children, eight daughters and two sons, and the second one to pass “through the dark valley of death.” She leaves a loving father and mother to mourn the loss of a dutiful and affectionate daughter, six sisters and two brothers to mourn the loss of a loving and unselfish sister. Many relatives and friends to mourn for her whom they loved and respected for her many Christian virtues. Her body was laid to rest in the Newbern Cemetery to await the final resurrection, but her sweet spirit is now with God who gave it. The services were held at the family residence where a great multitude of friends and neighbors assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed one. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community in this sad bereavement, but may the sorrowing ones be comforted with the thought that they “can go to her.” The Psalmist David at the death of his child said, “Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him but he shall not return to me.” So many we who have loved ones in the spirit land look forward in hope to the time when we shall meet with them in that sweet home to part no more.
