Joseph Henry Cowman
(February 10, 1868 – December 10, 1959)

Joseph Henry Cowman, son of William and Narcissis Cowman, was born Feb. 10, 1868, near Percy, and died at the Choate’s Nursing Home at Indianola, Dec. 10, 1959, at the age of 91 years and 10 months. He became a member of the Christian Church at Percy at an early age. He was united in marriage to Elvira Schrader, Dec. 22, 1887. To this union were born six sons, and two daughters. He was preceded in death by his wife and three sons, Willard M. Cowman, Milo M. Cowman and Earl P. Cowman, and one daughter, Ersa Clarke. He is survived by three sons, Roy A. and Riley E. of Des Moines, Harley H. of California, and one daughter, Irene Furnal of Indianola. In addition to his four children, are 25 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 12 in the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Sullivan officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
