Indianola Herald, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, Mar 3, 1019, p.1
Obituary – Mrs. Elihu Spencer
Mrs. Lavina Ann Lamb was born in Howard Co., Indiana, April 2nd, 1845, died February 12, 1910. She was married to Elihu Spencer, June 2, 1866. She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, two sons, Will Spencer of Oklahoma and Al Spencer of Carlisle, IA., both being present at the funeral, also four sisters, Mrs. Celia McPherson of Nebraska, Mrs. Ida Anderson, of Swan, Mrs. Tilda Walters and Mrs. Mary Wade of Carlisle, and one brother, Jos. Lamb of Des Moines. She also leaves a host of friends, as she was well known in this community in which she had spent the most of her life with the exception of a few years. She was a member of the Christian Church and endeavored to faithfully follow the footsteps of her Master. To say all, in a few words, she was a good woman. Paralysis was the cause of her death and for several months had been quite a sufferer. But she has gone to her reward, where “no pain nor death can enter” and we who are left behind, may be reconciled with the thought that, “When the waiting time is over, when from sin and sorrow free, we shall meet beyond the river, there to dwell eternally. Funeral service was held Monday, Feb 14, at the Friends Church near Middle River conducted by Rev. Brewer of the M. E. Church at Carlisle. The body was laid to rest in the Quaker Cemetery.
