Can somebody help this lady? Thanks~`MaryELanigan1942@aol.com
**I am not available for this look up right now. I believe Mary WOODELL spoken of is buried at Bladensburg Cemetery.

My name is Claire Carder and I live in Portland, OR. I am coming to Wapello County during the week of June 7-11 to research my family history and locate the James E. Woodell farmstead and would appreciate any help you can provide. We understand you have a special interest in the history of Wapello County and may be able to help us find information on the location of the farm.

From past research, not very extensive, we know my grandmother's father, Joe, was a son of James L. Woodell. James L Woodell left Wapello County in 1862 with his daughter, Eliza Woodell Wallsinger, and his son-in-law via wagon over the Oregon Trail and settled in Union County, Oregon.

James L Woodell's mother was Mary Yaeger (b. 1817, D 1859, Iowa (Wapello Co?). There is a narrative of the Oregon Trail trip that mentions the Woodell's neighbors were the Thompsons. We reviewed a 1922 map of the Wapello County/Bladensburg/Pleasant Township area and located a parcel belonging to Alfred Yaeger that about fits the location noted in the Oregon Trail narrative and we suspect this Yaeger may be the family/relatives of the Mary Yaeger that was married to James E. Woodell, who is the father, and Mary Yeager the mother of James L Woodell.

Thank you so much for any help you could provide on the location of the farmstead. As I mentioned we will be in the area next week, looking in cemeteries, and reviewing maps and any other historical documents that might help us locate where the Woodell farmstead was, and to find out where this family lived and what the country is like now.

My cell phone is 503.880.6503. We will have a laptop comuter wiith us and expect to do some research in Ottumwa, the county seat, to see what info may be in the old deed indexes and other historical information on property.

Thank you again. Please let us know if we can contact you when we get to the Wapello County area. We appreciate any help you can provide.
