My records have the surname as CLEAVE without the S.

You'll find that family in the 1880 census in Grant, Clark, Missouri. Head of family was James born England, wife Julia Robinson, born Ohio. See link below.

James and Julia were also parents to a son Charles who was the father of my wife's late aunt Blythe Cleave Lamborn.
