Dr. Lester H. Brown, 89, of Hastings, Nebraska died Monday, August 25, 1986 at the Veteran's Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services were held August 27, 1986 in the All Saints Chapel in Hasting with the Rev. W.C. Westman officiating.

Dr. Brown was born January 14, 1897, in Keosauqua, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1923 with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree. He had practices in Elkhorn, Denison, Iowa and Schleswig, Iowa. He was affiliated with the Hastings Animal Clinic for 10 years and was the first veterinarian to start artificial insemination of dairy cattle west of the Mississippi.

A World War I veteran who raised and drove harness race horses, he moved to Hasings in 1971 from Mesa, Arizona.

He was a member of the Elkhorn School Board, Douglas County Fair Board, Denison town council, World War 1 Barracks, American Legion, Midwest Lodge No. 317, Scottish Rite and the Tehema Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Hastings; two daughters, Mrs. Lou (Marge) Reimer of Grand Island, Nebraska and Mr. Bob (Maureen) Greenwell of Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers, Laverne of Stockport and Dale of Hillsboro; five sisters, Florence Keller of Fairfield, Vera Knowles, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Tompkins and Mrs. Eldon (Edna) Briden, all of Stockport, and Mrs. Boyd (Marie) Kisling of Keosauqua; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Butler-Volland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
