DOROTHY F. STECKER

Dorothy F. Stecker, daughter of Finley S. and Bernice Tyler Elliott, was born March 22, 1925 near Bentonsport and departed this life the afternoon of Sunday, May 4, 1986 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 61.

She graduated from Bonaparte High School, attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, and was employed in the office of John Morrell & Co., Ottumwa. On February 22, 1947 she married Dean Stecker in Keosauqua. They have spent their married life farming in Harrisburg Township, Van Buren County, near Hillsboro.

Dorothy was a member of the Harrisburg Baptist Church, had served many years as church clerk, and was a member of its Lady Missionary Society.

Surviving are her husband, Dean; two sons, Ronald of Iowa City and Keith of Williamsburg; a daughter, Sandra Batten of rural Hillsboro, and five grandchildren, Trae, Cory and Wendy Kite and Trevis and Eric Batten. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Elliott, Kinnelon, New Jersey and Philip Elliott, Bonaparte; an aunt, Elizabeth Tyler, Fairfield.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. in the Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Newman officiating. Interment was in Vale Cemetery near the church. Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements. A memorial was established for the National Organization for Rare Diseases.
