WALDO D. SMUTZ

Waldo D. Smutz, son of Samuel and Clara Derr Smutz, was born June 24, 1921 at Stockport and departed this life early the morning of Sunday, April 27, 1986 at his home in Keosauqua at the age of 64.

He graduated from Stockport High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was Van Buren County Sheriff from 1948 until 1953, was employed at Davidson Motor Co. and Hohl & Hohl Implement Co., and for 12 years with his wife operated W-D Dairy Creme in Keosauqua.

He was a member of Workman Lodge No. 634, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Stockport, Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion, Keosauqua and the Keosauqua Lions Club.

On August 5, 1946 Waldo was united in marriage with Donna Rich in St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. She survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Fred Rich, Columbia, Missouri; Sam Smutz, Green Point, South Carolina, Joe Smutz, Fairfield, Bill Smutz, Belmond, and Gene Smutz, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Cindy Quint, Keosauqua; 16 grandchildren; a brother, Ted of Columbus, Ohio.

His parents, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, 1986 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with the Rev. Leo Lancaster of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua. A memorial was established for the Van Buren County Ambulance Service.
