ANNA S. BLACK
Anna S. Black, daughter of Earl and Maude Hootman Hill, was born December 9, 1908, at Milton, and departed this life early Tuesday, September 1, 1981, at University Hospitals in Iowa City at the age of 72.
On February 21, 1928 she married Alva W. Black at Bloomfield. They lived in the Mediapolis community from 1928 until 1967, when they returned to Milton.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, a daughter, Juanita Bell and son-in-law Clifford Bell of Milton; two sons, Kenneth and his wife Mary of Mediapolis, and Alva, Jr. and his wife Delores of Wapello; another daughter-in-law, Devona Black of Mediapolis; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Keith "Skip" Hill of Milton, and Wayne Hill, Des Moines; three sisters, Florence Leger, Drayton Plains, Mich., Wilmer Heller, Newhall, Iowa, and Joan Hopkins, Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives and friends. A brother, Isaac Hill, a son, Robert, and a great grandson, Dustin Hobbs, preceded her in death.
Mr. Black was a member of the Mediapolis Methodist Women's Fellowship, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Stitch and Chatter Club, all at Milton.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 3, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. in the Milton Christian Church, with Bruce Hofman, pastor, and Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Grandsons Steven, Rollin, Alva W. III, Dennis and Michael Black and Michael and Rodney Bell served as pallbearers, with interment in Sunnyside Cemetery at Milton. A memorial was established for the Diabetes Assn.
