Mrs. Leon Ufkes

The funeral for Mrs. Leon Ufkes of Richland, Wash. was held May 6, at 2 p.m., in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at Richland. Mrs. Ufkes, 43, died May 4 at 4:30 p.m. A graveside committal service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland, following the funeral service.

Mrs. Ufkes wrote a message on April 27 while a patient in the Kadlec hospital in Richland. It was printed on the funeral folders:

"I was born Iris Ruth Adkins on Nov. 1, 1928 in Carrollton, Mo. to Mr. and Mrs. Ira R. Adkins. Both have preceded me in death.

"I leave my husband, Leon B. Ufkes; son Doug, 21; son, Mark, age 16; daughter, Tamara, age 13; sister and brother-in-law and family, Mr. and Mrs. K.W. Reid, Kevin, Karinda, of Davenport, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Adkins, Rogina and Patty Ruth (my brother and sister-in-law), Burlington, Iowa.

"There are so many things to do here on earth that I've never been able to understand why anyone would want to 'cop' out, I certainly don't, as we all know we don't always get what we want. I have had a good, joyous life so - therefore I don't complain too much about my treatment here.

"I would like to list here all my friends and the numberous good things they have done for me since my illness but it would tak this whole newspaper (in small type, too). You all know in your hearts who you are, as I do! Thank you all and thank you God for 43 years!"
