In Response To: Census lookup 1850-1860 (Coleen Coleman)

A Temple Smith b, abt. 1840 was found in the household of Elias Scott in 1860 in Montgomery, Owen, IN. Elias could have been a relative of John Scott.

Another look at census records for Elias Scott lead accidently to a page in the 1870 census where Smith and Scott families were adjacent and therefore probably neighbors. This is page 182 of the 1870 census for Logansport. Bethelhem twp. Cass, IN. Families are numerated for William Scott age 29, Daniel Scott 59, Amanda Smith 59 and Job Smith 28. My suggestion is to search for the older folks in 1840-1850 census and not discount any of the people as possible links to the families you are searching for.

A search of history sources for these counties needs also to be made as I suspect these folks had a common historical purpose.

I think I see a group of settlers represented here as Daniel and Amanda were both born in New Jersey and appear two doors away from one another.
