George Deeds/Dietz

DEEDS OR DIETZ

There is a George Deeds buried in Buckingham Cemetary in Tama County, Perry Twp., Iowa that has no dates on his stone, only: Pvt.Co.D, 12th Ill. Cav. G.A.R. The name and information matches a George Deeds we've been tracking. He is listed in the Civil War data base for Chicago, Illinois as having enlisted on 30 December 1863 and deserting on 18 February 1865. I've been told that desertion was often not true. He might have hooked up with an Iowa company and decided to stay with them. We believe he is a relative of ours, who disappeared after 1850. Can anyone tell us anything about him? Our George Deeds/Dietz (his legal name) was last documented in the 1850 Franklin Co. Ohio census; then he was nowhere. We've found all of his siblings, but nothing more on him. He was born in 1808 in PA, and his wife's name was Louisa. Children that we know of: Sarah A. Deeds/Dietz (1839), John H. (1840), Daniel (1845), and Ann M. (1848). If someone can either confirm or eliminate him from our search I would be most grateful.
