Funeral Services Were Held Monday For David Brooks

David Brooks, son of Alexander and Sarah Brooks, was born in Crehannan, Ireland, Sept. 18, 1885, and died at the University Hospital in Iowa Center Aug. 18, 1961, at the age 75 years and 11 months. Death was attributed to tetanus and other complications. He was baptized, confirmed and a communicant member of the Episcopalian Church of Ireland. He received his education n his native country.

At the age of 25, he came to the United States and made his home with is uncle, James Brooks at Colo, returning to Ireland to be married to Jennie Burnett, Jan. 9, 1913. They started their homemaking on a farm near Colo, Iowa. They have since lived in or around Nevada, Iowa.

Seven children were born to this union, four sons, Lester, Virgil, Mervin and LaVerne, all of Nevada and three daughters, Genevieve (Mrs. Harold Myrland) of Austin, Minn., Virginia (Mrs. LaVerne Jacobson) of Nevada, Iowa, and Isabelle (Mrs. Don Hillis) of Story City, Iowa.

In their early married life, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks adopted a ten year old boy, Harold Brooks, who now resides in Cedar Rapids. John Calhoun, a nephew, also made his home with them for eight and a half years, and now lived near Maxwell.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Jennie, the seven children, 25 grandchildren, two brothers, William of Londonderry, Ireland and Alexander of Crehannon, Ireland, three sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Margaret) Webb, of Maxwell, Mrs. Mary Jones of Colo, Iowa and Isabelle Hutchinson of Gulladuff, Ireland, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and four sisters, Alice, Agnes Brooks and Mrs. Elizabeth Hutchinson, all of Ireland, and Mrs. Ralph (Sarah) Handsacker of Colo, Iowa.
