Karen Marleen Husmann, the daughter of Alfred and Florence (Whiting) Husmann, was born on June 13, 1957, in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up on a farm south of Westfield, Iowa. She attended school in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. After high school, Karen went to work in sewing for multiple companies, including Aalfs Manufacturing.

Karen met the love of her life, Gary Bowman, at a church ‘singles’ event in Minnesota. After a short courtship, they were united in marriage on March 29, 1986, in Akron. Their wedding was a double wedding shared with her sister, June. After a brief period in the Albert Lea, MN area where they gave birth to their son, they made their home in Akron. Karen started work for K-Products in Orange City doing sewing and picking. She eventually found the work she loved when going to work at Mica Hill Assisted Living in Hawarden as a senior health care manager. There she helped many residents as she worked there until her retirement. Gary passed away on December 11, 2023.

Karen enjoyed doing stained glass, quilting, decorating, and cooking. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Nathan Bowman of Indianola, IA; her brother, David (Linda) Husmann of Akron, IA; her sister, June (Mark) Heggedahl of Sioux Falls, SD; her in laws, Judy (Gary) Degan of Ellendale, MN, William (Sue) Bowman of Ellendale, MN, and Ann Bowman of Ellendale, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
