From the Rock Valley Bee, December 20, 1929:

Friends here Wednesday received word of the death of Miss Gertrude Dieters at her home in Grand Haven, Mich. She was the daughter of John Dieters, a former resident of Rock Valley. She had been sick for several months and had been in the hospitals in Rochester, Minn., and was returned from there to her home. She was about twenty years old. The family will no doubt be remembered here by many of the older residents of this vicinity.

Her Michigan death certificate spells her surname Deiters; born December 4, 1904 in Fremont, Michigan; parents John Deiters and Jennie Huisjen; residing at 907 Slayton, Grand Haven; died at 1:20 p.m. on December 16, 1929 of chronic myocarditis and chronic endocarditis, duration 2 years; contributory cause, staphylococcus septicemia, duration 2 months; buried at Fremont, Michigan.

The 1920 U.S. census shows the family living in Sioux Center, Iowa: John Deiters (36), a widower, born in Michigan of German parents, a cream hauler; and children Gertrude (15), John A. (11), and Alice (8), all born in Michigan. They were still living in Sioux Center in 1925, per the Iowa state census.
