Education: Attended country school in Wright County, IA, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School, Class of 1947

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, IA; was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA, where she taught Sunday school, participated in Bible studies, and was active in her church women’s circle

Marriage: Willard Judine Olson; Jan. 12, 1951; Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, IA

Employment: After finishing high school, Marg lived in Fort Dodge, IA and worked as a long-distance telephone operator; after her marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper in Eagle Grove, IA while Willard was stationed in Germany with the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. When Willard returned from the service, he and Marg farmed on the “Olson Home Place” near Thor. In 1962 the family moved to Harlan, IA where Willard was employed at Western Iowa Pork. In the late 1970’s, Marg started working part time for Present Trends and Christmas Trends gift shops in Harlan, IA

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking; hobbies included reading, tending to her flower beds, and knitting, making mittens, stocking caps, and baby blankets for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marg and Willard had a love of music and dancing throughout their 65-year marriage. Even when Willard was using his walker, he and Marg could be found “dancing” in the family room to the music of the Big Band orchestras. Family vacations with long trips in the car were often opportunities for a family sing-a-long. Mostly, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, going to their events, and taking them on special outings.
