Education: Began school at St. Peter’s Catholic School, Defiance, IA, until they moved to Dunlap, IA in March 194;. he graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School with the Class of 1953. A few years later, he enrolled at enrolled at Woodbury College in California and graduated in 1959 with a business degree. In 1970, Marvin determined he had a ministry to serve as a deacon as part of his faith, so he began studies and was ordained in 1974. In 1979, he served as the Diocesan Deaconate Director and had the honor of being Deacon at Living History Farms when Pope John II came to the heartland.

Religious affiliation: Catholic

Military service: Enlisted with the U. S. Army Reserves in 1955; he attended Camp McCoy, WI, and then Camp Roberts, CA in 1957. After he graduated from Woodbury College, General Kellog of the 101st Artillery division promoted him, and he became a driver. While at camp, he had the honor of driving 4-star General McArther, grandson of the original general.

Marriage: Dolores Stessman; 1960; location not provided

Employment: Farmer

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed riding horses, especially racehorses at county fairs; liked helping on the family farm; found joy serving as Deacon and helping with funerals, visitations, baptisms and preaching on Sundays.
