In 1985, he and Elsie moved to Florida and he worked for a construction company until his retirement in 1997. They then became snow birds, spending summers in Iowa and winters in Florida.

Hobbies/Interests: served on the Irwin-Kirkman (IA) School Board from 1976 to 1985; was an ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service) township committee member for 15 years; member of the Kirkman Fire Department for numerous years; playing cards; NASCAR; word search puzzles; known for making up his own words and nonsensical phrases.
