OBITUARY ~ JOANN ARDELL (AKES) GREEN
August 21, 1943 ~ February 07, 2018

Joann Ardell (Akes) Green was born August 21, 1943 to Zelma Ardell (Oliver) Akes and Harold Keith Akes in her aunt’s home at Shelby, Iowa. At the time of her birth, her father was in the process of being sent to Japan to serve in the US Army as a soldier in World War II.

Many happy times were spent growing up at her grandparents’ (M.L. and Myrtle Oliver’s) farm south of Clarinda, Iowa. In her elementary school years, she attended Washington Central School at Keokuk, Iowa. She completed Junior High and High School on the Northwest Missouri State University campus (Horace Mann School) graduating in 1961.

Joann spent her entire lifetime as a farm wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, spending time in nature, and conversing with a few close friends and relatives. Joann was married to Dick Lee Green from Blockton, Iowa. To this union, four children were born: Martin (Marty) Lee, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann, Bonnie Estella, and Rhonda Kay.

Joann passed away on February 7, 2018.

Survivors include her children Marty (Ronda) Green, Elizabeth Brand, Bonnie Randles, and Rhonda (Merle) Triggs; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; her father, Harold (Ginnie) Akes and many relatives.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband (Dick Green); her mother; grandparents; aunts, uncles, cousins, and brother and sister-in-laws.

Private services were held at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Led by Pastor Bill Armstrong. Pianist was Nancy Sackett. Special songs were “In The Garden” – CD, “Holes In The Floor of Heaven” -CD, and “Amazing Grace” (on bagpipes) -CD.

Casketbearers were Lucan Triggs, Lyndon Triggs, Joe Catanzareti, Merle Triggs, Nicholas Triggs, and Lynn Webb.

Joann was led to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Memorials will be to Boys Town in Omaha, NE.
