I am trying to find out more about a major fire that destroyed my Great-Grandfather's Metal Shop in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. By the photographs of it I have, the old cars in the photo appear to be of the 1930's.

The location of the shop was:

Claborne-Reno Garage at 11th and Locust Streets, Des Moines, Iowa

My Great-Grandfather was Charles J. Smith, a Blacksmith, Welder and Tool and Die Maker.

I know the fire had to occur sometime between 1939 and 1941.

I have tried contacting the woman who had offered look-ups on this site for the Firemen's Scrapbook, but her URL doesn't work.

I'd appreciate any help someone can offer.
Thank you.
