Daniel Rees- Des Moines miner?

REESE, OLSEN, BELLIS, TWITCHELL, WAKEHAM

I am descended from Daniel Rees b. 1832 in Wales through his son Joseph Albert Rees b. 1855 in Wales. I am told that Daniel was involved in the development of mines in Des Moines c. 1860. Is anyone able to provide any information on mining around Des Moines during that period? Perhaps, lead during the civil war? I would also appreciate hearing from anyone who has any knowledge of Daniel, his wife Ruth, and/or his descendents. Richard
