Duane "Nick" Madden, Jr.

Duane Nicholas "Nick" Madden Jr., 15-year-old son of Duane and Alberta (Kulvik) Madden of Akron died Wednesday (Dec. 13, 1989) in a Sioux City hospital after along illness.

Services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. Rev. William Flemr officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers were Arvin Finzen, Freeman Howard, Stan Yeager, Leonard Brooks, Char Ing, Ken Stone and Donnie Ransom.

Active pallbearers were Steve Peck, John Howard, Vicent Madden, Wayne Alberts, Larry Jurgensen and Jim Renken.

"Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Just As I Am" were sung by the congregation. Carol Harris was organist.

Nick was born Sept. 24, 1974, in Iowa City, Iowa. He lived for a few years at Brunsville before moving to Akron. He was a ninth grade student at Akron-Westfield Community school.

He was a former member of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Portland Preston Pillars 4-H club.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, "Jennifer at home; a maternal grandfather, Hebert Kulvik of Newfolden, Minn.; maternal (paternal) grandparents, Don and Doris Madden of Akron, and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Lorraine Peck Kulvik and a step-grandmother, Josephine Kulvik.
