Death of John Winn at Red Oak Home Tuesday Night

Resident of Red Oak Fifty Years, Head of Large Family Passes Away in the Evening of Life.

The death of John Winn, 82, occured at the family home at 505 Grimes street, Tuesday evening, at 6:30 o'clock. His death was due to old age complications from which he had suffered for a long time, and which became acute about five weeks ago.

The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 from the Perryman funeral chapel, with Rev. H.L. McKinney of the Baptist church officiating. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, as follows: Llewellyn Dilley, Ralph Dilley, Beam Breese, Harold Breese, John Gillespie and Charles Gillespie. Music was by Miss Kate Trapnell and Mrs. I.A. Brayton, and the floral arrangement was in charge of Mr. and Mrs. G.G. Elwood. Interment was in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery.

Deceased was born in Illinois, October 17, 1856, son of Lysander and Celia Winn. With his folks he came to Altalisa, Ia., in 1868, and there was married August 15, 1878, to Sarah Ella Crees, and with her went to Exira, Ia., in 1887, and with his family came to Red Oak in 1888, where they had since made their home. He was engaged in farming and teaming most of his active life.

Mr. Winn was the father of ten children, nine of whom, with their mother, survive as follows: Mrs. I.L. Dilley, Nodaway, Mo., Mrs. Ed Breese, Harry E. Winn, Mrs. Frank Gillespie, Mrs. Herbert Morton, all of Red Oak; Walter J. Winn, Glendale, Calif., and Frank, Merle and Charles C. Winn, all living in Red Oak. One sister, Mrs. Mary Hestrern(?), Pamona, Calif., and two brothers, Charles of Muscatine and Samuel at Indianola, Ia., survive him. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
