Last rites for Dr. Jean Linder Leistikow of Anchorage, Alaska, were held Monday, February 7, in the United Methodist Church in Hartley. Pastor Keith Scott, assisted by Dr. Kenneth Metcalf of Saint John's Methodist Church in Davenport, officiated.

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.

Services were also held on Saturday, February 5, in Anchorage.

Caolyn Jean Linder Leistikow was born at Sioux City, Iowa, on March 2, 1942, the beloved daughter of Carolyn Metcalf Linder and Eugene Linder of Hartley. Her childhood years were spent at the rural home of her parents. In 1970 she graduated from the Hartley High School as salutitorian of her class. She was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church.

Continuing her interest in the sciences, coupled with a deep and sincere desire to serve others, she entered the University of Iowa, graduating from the College of Medicine in 1968. Honors bestowed upon her included election to Phie Beta Kappa. Each scholastic achievement and award was accepted by her quietly, always sharing the credit of her accomplishments with her family and her teachers.

Signal honor was brought to her community when she became the firs woman citizen to receive the title of Medical Doctor. (?)

On December 19, 1968, she and Dr. David Leistikow were married at Iowa City in the presence of members of their families. Following her residency and his internship in Pediatrics at Fresno, California, in 1969-1970, Dr. Leistiknow joined her husband as civilian employee of the United States Air Force at Anchorage. Together from 1970-1972, they continued a life of dedicated service.

On February 3, 1972, she passd away following a brief illness at the Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

Immediate survivors include her husband, her parents, two sisters; Marjorie Dale, Mrs. Reginald Larson of Staples, Minnesota, and Glenna Lous, Mrs. Boyud McGee of Peterson, Iowa; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Metcalf of Spirit Latke, Iowa.
