Alexander Jameson Innes was horn in Oxford county Ontario. Canada, on December l3 1857 He was one of a family of five children His parents, who were natives of Scotland, were pioneer settlers of the Canadian forests.

When he was twenty seven years of age he came to Iowa and purchased a farm in O'Brien county five miles south of Sutherland. Two years later he returned to his hoyhood home and was there married to Elizabeth Durna. For seven years they made their home on the farm, then moved to Sutherland where Mr Innes conducted a successful business until nine years ago when he was forced by ill health to retire from active life.

Mrs. Innes passed awny on June 10, 1911 Their eldest daughter, Clara. Mrs. Howard Eddington, preceded her father in death.

He is survived by his daughter Margaret, who is Mrs Clyde Mann of Sutherland, a son. James A Innes of Sloan, Iowa , and three grandchildren, Gordon Eddington. and Josephine and Alexander Innes. Also a brother. William Innes of Harrington Ontario and a sister Mrs J F Stewart of Chicago, survive him.

For the past year Mr Innes' health has been failing and in October he went to Tucson. Arizona in the hope that a milder climate might be of benefit. A short time ago his son and daughter were called to his bedside and were with him when, on Nov l9th. he passed away.

His funeral was held on Sunday afternoon in Sutherland at the M E Church of which he has long been a member.

Mr Innes will be greatly missed in this community to which he came as a pioneer and in the development which he bus had so active a part. Although of a quiet retiring nature, his cheerfulness, his friendliness, his genuine love for his fellow men and his steadfast religious faith have won for him a high place in the regard of all who knew him. By an unusual gift of sympalhetic understanding he made friends wherever he went, and between him and his children there existed a beautiful bond of affectionate companionship. Of him we truly say that, judged by our highest standards, he lived a truly successful life.
