James P. Coady (1940 - 2003)

James P. Coady, 62, of Melrose, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Mercy Hospice - Johnston in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose, Rev. Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.

He was born June 17, 1940, in Melrose, to John and Mary O'Neil Coady. He married Linda M. Scieszinski on Nov. 26, 1966, in Des Moines. He was a graduate of Melrose High School, class of 1958. He farmed for several years and worked construction. In the late 1980s he worked construction for Riley's and for the last several years he worked for McAninch Corporation. He was a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4167 in Albia. He was also a member of Union Local No 234 of Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife of Melrose, one son, John and his wife Jennifer of Grimes; two daughters, Marla Austin and her husband Steve of Amana, and Melia Johnson and her husband Noland of Keota; seven grandchildren, and two sisters, Margie Conway of Albia and Mary Lou Spenla of Woodward.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John F. Coady.

Visitation will being 9 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Winfeld Funeral Home in Albia. The casket will be moved to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose at noon on Wednesday for visitation, with the family present at the church. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday evening, at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose or to Mercy Hospice - Johnston.
Winfeld Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
