Ray Augustus Waddell, son of Joseph and Savila Waddell, was born October 4, 1889, at Danbury, Iowa. He was the oldest child in a family of four. He spent his childhood around Danbury and after his marriage, he farmed near Danbury for many years. Eight years ago he retired and moved to Mapleton where he had lived the remainder of his
life.

He was married to Frances Fish on December 6, 1910 near Danbury. This union was blessed with 3 children. He was a member of the Methodist church in Mapleton. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge, Quarry lodge No. 404 at Mapleton.

He departed this life Friday, June 29, 1956 at an Iowa City hospital after a lingering illness of 2 years. He had reached the age of 66 years, 8 months and 25 days.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; 1 daughter, Marjorie Waddell of Mapleton, 2 sons, Warren of Mapleton and Ernest of LeMars; 2 brothers, Clifford of Lakewood, O., and Dale of Long View, Texas; 1 sister, Mrs. Ethel Cowley of Pierson; and 1 granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment was in the Mount Hope cemetery with services under the direction of the Byers-Walter funeral home. Rev Eugene Hancock officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were Dan Welte, Ray Ives, Lawrence Kuhl, Harry Mehrings, Roy White and Louis Godberson.

Many friends and relatives from South Dakota, Minnesota, Texas, California and Iowa attended the funeral.
