DANBURY, Iowa - Virgil L. "Red" Treiber, 94, of Danbury died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 11. a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholics Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil wake service; at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time, Monday at the church.

Virgil Louis Treiber was born Dec. 28, 1911, on the home place southeast of Danbury, the son of Anton and Nellie (Rosauer) Treiber. He attended country school and St. Patrick's Academy in Danbury. He lived and farmed the land of his birth his entire life.

On Dec. 19, 1940, he was united in marriage to Doris Louise Boeche in South Sioux City. Doris passed away May 15, 1990 after sharing almost 50 years of marriage together.

He found true fulfillment in farming. He loved to work, nurturing the land and livestock. He had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He was an honest, caring man that had a gift of storytelling, capturing the hearts and imaginations of anyone that knew him. Above all else, he deeply loved his son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never hurt a soul.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of him include his son, Russ Treiber of Danbury; a granddaughter and her husband, Amy and Bart Petersen of Moville, Iowa; a grandson, Tony Treiber of Danbury; three great-grandchildren, Colt, Casie and Charlee Petersen; many other ' relatives; and numerous good friends.

Along with his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents.
