We regret to hear of the dangerous illness of our former townsman, Lawrence Monk. He has been living and practicing law for a few months at Missouri Valley, near Council Bluffs in this state.

While visiting his brother John Monk, at Onawa, he was taken with an intermittent fever, which, on a relapse ran into typhoid fever, and assumed dangerous symptoms.

His sister, Miss Mary Monk, left on Monday to assist in taking care of him. Lawrence is a fine and promising young man, and his many friends here wish him a speedy recovery and a new lease of life.

P.S. Since the above was in type a telegram has been received stating that Lawrence died on Tuesday afternoon. He was 24 years old.

Note: Burial is in Onawa City cemetery, Onawa, Monona county, Iowa. The dates on his gravestone are 4/18/1851 - 9/26/1876
