Esther M. MacClure, 94, of Onawa, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant officiating. (Social distancing measures must be followed- Family requests attendees to bring and wear masks.) Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Esther Magdalen MacClure was born August 31, 1926 the daughter of Sylvester and Rose (Pottebaum) Minten. She grew up in rural Sioux county, Iowa and graduated in 1944 from St. Mary’s Academy Catholic School in Alton, Iowa. From there she went on to a Business Training School. After business school she was employed as a secretary until her marriage.

Esther and James MacClure were united into marriage June 26, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union twelve children were born. The couple initially farmed near Sloan, Iowa for a year, then moved to a farm southeast of Hornick, Iowa, until 1989 when they retired to Onawa.

She enjoyed raising her twelve children. Esther loved gardening her flowers and vegetables, canning, sewing, and crossword puzzles. She loved all her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Esther was a volunteer at Act II and was a member of the Burgess Auxiliary. Esther was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa. She was very active in her church and was on the Rosary Society.

Survivors include her children, Mary (Don) McGlothlin of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Elaine MacClure of North Liberty, Iowa, Teresa (Martin) Bernstein of Kansas City, Kansas, Don MacClure of Onawa, Iowa, Glen (Sheryl) MacClure of Des Moines, Iowa, Wayne (Rhonda) MacClure of Hornick, Iowa, Steven MacClure of Glendale, Arizona, Tom (Ronda) MacClure of Whiting, Iowa, and Gary (Denise) MacClure of Navarre, Florida; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters; nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Rose Minten; her husband, James MacClure; granddaughter, Megan MacClure; sons, Fred MacClure and Ray MacClure, daughter, Marlene Appleton; and two brothers, Joe and Paul Minten; and one sister, Rosemary O'Gara.
