Annette Ellen Carlson, 95, of Blencoe, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, Atlantic, Iowa.

A Private Family Memorial will be held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Blencoe United Church of Christ, Blencoe, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. Public Memorial Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 15, 2020 in the Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa. (Social distancing measures must be followed- Masks are encouraged) Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Annette (Gray) Carlson was born November 13, 1924 the daughter of Neville and Zuella (Beattie) Gray. Annette graduated from Blencoe Consolidated School in 1943 and received an Elementary Teacher’s Degree from Morningside College. She enjoyed teaching first-graders at the Whiting Consolidated Schools.

Annette (Gray) married Eugene Atkinson Carlson on February 14, 1944 at the Davis-Monthan Airbase in Tucson, Arizona. Following WW II, they returned to their hometown and generational home to join in the family oil business at the “Carlson Corner” with three generations. Later joined by son Ron, to make it a four-generation business.

They were blessed with three children, Gene David Carlson, Ronald Gray Carlson, and Jo Ellen (Carlson) Lage. They had many happy times with family and friends in their “home by the tracks”. Special joys were when each addition to the family could “slide the rails” on the stairway!

She was a lifelong member of the Blencoe Congregational United Church of Christ where she was the organist for many years. Annette found joy teaching others on the piano and organ. She enjoyed having Christmas choir parties in her home. Annette was always encouraging others to share their talents. She sang in the Siouxland Master Choir for many years.

Annette loved her hometown and was active in many activities such as: Eastern Star, P.E.O., Legion Auxiliary, Blencoe Community Club, and the Blencoe Book Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Jo Ellen (Lance) Lage of Atlantic, Iowa; her daughters-in-law, Eileen Carlson and Freda Carlson; five grandchildren, Christopher (Jill) Carlson, Jennifer Carlson, Erica Carlson, Sarah (Jeff) Kester, and Faye (Cole) Dreyer; seven great-grandchildren, Maria Carlson, Macy Morningstar, Megan Morningstar, Gabriel Novotony, Grayson Kester, Cassidy Kester, and Kaden Dreyer; and other family, Carolyn Carlson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Neville and Zuella (Beattie) Gray; husband, Eugene Atkinson Carlson; and two sons, Ronald Gray Carlson and Gene David Carlson.

Memorials are preferred and may be directed in Annette’s memory to: Blencoe United Church of Christ, Blencoe Community Center, and the Onawa Public Library.
