Monona County Loses Another Old Resident
EDWARD SHEA, SR. PASSED AWAY LAST SATURDAY
Came to Monona County in 1877 and Located Near Turin. Had a Wide Acquaintance and Many Friends.

Edward Shea, Sr., was born July 20, 1844, in the vicinity of Boston, Mass. His parents moved to Mineral Point, Wis., while he was young. In April 1804 he joined Co. E. of the 11th Wisconsin regiment in which he served for eighteen months, when he was honorably discharged. He then returned to his home at Mineral Point, Wis., where he remained until 1870, when he came, to O'Brien county in this state, in company with his brother Martin Shea, now of Sioux City, where they took claims under the homestead law. He was married to Miss Harriett Gibbs, of Obrien county Oct. 8, 1871. To this union eight children were born, seven of whom survive: Edward A., a prominent merchant in Blencoe; Clara, now Mrs. James Strain, of Strain, N. Dak., Miss Nettie of Woodbine; John of Blencoe: Miss Ina, a teacher in the Missouri Valley schools; Ernest and Walter of Blencoe and a daughter Lucy who died in 1897.

He is also survived by his wife, one brother Martin of Sioux City and a sister Miss Mary Shea of Ft Dodge. Mr. Shea came with his family to Monona county in 1877 and located near the town of Turin where they resided for several years then moving to River Sioux which was their home for sixteen years, then to Blencoe where they have resided during the past twelve years.

Mr. Shea was a kindly and indulgent husband and father, and a highly esteemed citizen, he and his family having always been leaders in the different communities in which they lived, being prominently identified with and standing for the best things.

Funeral services were conducted from the M. F. church at Blencoe Sunday afternoon at 2 o 'clock by a former pastor, Rev. Bassett, of Morningside and owing to the wide acquaintance of the deceased went very largely attended. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Interment was made in the Blencoe cemetery. Mrs. Strain, of North Dakota, Martin Shea, of Sioux City and Miss Mary Shea of F t Dodge were present at the funeral.
