Charles "Charlie" Lavern Hobbs, 78, of Whiting, Iowa passed away at his home on Sunday, October 29, 2017.

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Rush Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Josh Weece, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Charlie was born November 16, 1938 at a farmhouse outside of Whiting, Iowa the son of Charles Ervin and Dorlean (Foster) Hobbs. He attended Whiting High School and then two years at Morningside College in Sioux City Iowa. He married Betty Priestman and to this union one son was born, David in 1960.

As a young man, after college, he worked for his father at Missouri Valley Dredging Company. He was drafted and served two years in the Army in Germany. After his military service he became a hairdresser and owned a shop with his second wife in Onawa, Iowa.

After his hairdressing business he worked for Morton Buildings and was honored as a "Salesman of the Year" and won a trip to Hawaii.

Following that venture he moved to Baltimore where he worked for his brother-in-law in the Jiffy Lube business. He then retired to Onawa and later moved to Whiting, Iowa.

Charlie enjoyed golfing, traveling and 4th of July celebrations in Whiting, Iowa with family and friends.

Charlie is survived by his son, David and his wife Piper of Shenandoah, Iowa; two sisters, Betty and her husband James Kratovil of Manson, Iowa and Dixie and her husband James Hindman of Westminster, Maryland; nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loyal canine companions, Gidget and Katie.
