Family & friends remember Florence Edgington Nov. 19

Florence Edgington, age 81 of Mapleton, Iowa died Monday, November 15, 2004 at Sioux City, Iowa. Memorial service was held 1:00 p. m. Friday, November 19 at St John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial was in Mt Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Marie Whiteing was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "Amazing Grace."

Florence Elizabeth (Callaghan) Edgington was born June 26, 1923, on a farm near Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Celia (Metcalf) Callaghan She graduated from Climbing Hill High School with the class of 1941. On July 27, 1947, Florence married Byron Edgington at St John's Evangelical Church at German City. They moved to their farm near Mapleton and lived there until retiring in November of 1981 and moving to their present home in Mapleton.

The couple enjoyed camping and spending over 25 years wintering in Texas.

Survivors include Byron, her husband of 57 years, one son, Don Edgington, and his wife, Pat, of Mapleton, one daughter, Judy Schleis. and her husband, Tom, of Fremont, Nebraska, six grandchildren, Jason, Channon, and Wendy Schleis, and Jacob Halie, and Jordan Edgington Schleis, and two sisters-in-law, Roberta Edgington and Betty Callaghan both of Mapleton, along with several nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents. Earl and Celia Callaghan and three brothers, Orval, Ray, and Glen.

Honorary pallbearers were Waldo Rickert, John Jacobs, Lyle Rosburg, Norman Petersen, Les Goslar, Harold Porter and Vernon Thies.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
