I am a great grand niece of Chester Conklin's second wife Marghuerite Maureen Rouse and am working on the genealogy of my family and was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I have been trying to locate her death certificate and her grave to no avail.

My Grandfather (Her nephew) passed away in 1999 and there are very few (2) family members that remember Marghuerite Conklin. One of which visited their house in California in the early to mid 1930's (They married in may of 1934 and Marghuerite died in 1937 having been stricken with ailments like arthritis for most of her life and confined to a wheelchair).

According to the family member that had visited them all those years ago the Conklin's lived next door to Betty Grable and Johnny Weissmuller (Of Tarzan fame). Even mentioning she was a young girl when she saw them and could hear Weissmuller and Lupe Velez (They were married from 1933-1939) have their fights. I have been trying to locate documents on the two of them for the last 3 years or so. When I read your article I was amazed to find how much insight you had on Chester Conklin.

I was hoping that maybe someone could tell me any information on his father's court case and his mother's death in 1895. According to some of the information I have recieved from Conklin decendants and an article along with a couple others I have found on the subject I was able to deduce that Chester's mother's name was:

Alice B. Cooper Born: In Illinois and his father's name was:

Philemon (Phil) Bliss Conklin Born: Jun 1859 in Illinois of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

His father was tried twice for the murder of his mother and acquitted. The first trial was in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The jury disagreed and no verdict was reached The second trial, after a change of venue, was at Washington, Iowa and this time he was acquitted.

Is there any way you could tell me where the court documents might be or if you have any other info regaurding this family? I figure they might lead me to my great grand aunt before the people that remember her pass away.

Any insight you may be able to give me would be most helpful.
