ANOTHER DEATH RESULTED.
Diptheria[sic] Case at Marion More Full Explained.
On Saturday last The Gazette made mention of the sad death of little Grace Woods of Marion of diptheria. Miss Gille, the sister who was also taken with the dread disease died Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock and was buried at 8 the same evening.
Concerning the other case G.L. Snyder, a brother of Mrs. Woods, who has acted for the family and done all that he could do in their hour of affliction, this morning said to a Gazette reporter:
"The case is a peculiarly unfortunate and sad one, and while a mistake was made, so far as the strict contemplation of the law is concerned, in momentarily removing the lid of the casket as it rested on the sidewalk before being placed in the hearse, every other precaution that could have been taken was carried out and I am satisfied there will be no spread of the contagion.
On August 27th two of the daughters visited an uncle at 1304 D avenue in this city. The children of this family were ill at that time of sore throat and under a physician's care. He did not say that the case was diptheria and it may not have been, as all the children have entirely recovered, and are out in the country. On August 31, Grace Woods was taken ill and between that date and September 8, when the house was quarantined, she was taken to the doctor twice. She died on September 12 and was buried on the morning of the 13th, the delay in the funeral being occasioned by difficulty in securing a cemetery lot. Now the strange part of the case is the fact that the children of a family residing at 1302 D avenue are ill of diptheria and the house is quarantined, as I am informed.
"No other cases have developed in Marion and I trust that none will. The Woods family has used every precaution to prevent the spread of the disease and in the case of the second death every requirement of the law was observed to the letter."
